Why Do You Charge for Handled Bags?
Since 2023, we have been charging for branded handled bags and pastry boxes at both locations.
Branded handled bag 1.00 | Branded pastry box 2.00 Making the decision to charge for handled bags and branded pastry boxes came from our efforts in sustainability, and following many businesses in New Jersey who charge for single-use bags. We encourage our customers to bring in their own reusable bags if they require something to carry out larger purchases. Your items are always pre-packaged or appropriately packed upon purchase for carryout. Meaning, your pastry might be placed in a pastry bag, your quiche in a box, your sandwich wrapped in parchment and then placed in a bag, or your loaf cakes are already ready to go in a cake box. These costs are wrapped into the cost of the product. However, if you require a handled bag for multiple items or would like your pastry packaged in one of our beautiful, branded pastry boxes, we charge a small fee. Since we implemented this policy in 2023, we have saved over 100,000 single-use bags per year between our two locations. This complements our focus on sustainable practices including using plant-based straws, favoring the use of paper products over plastics, utilizing recycled materials packaging or compostable items when possible, minimizing waste, as well as donating to important local organizations, including those who support the food insecure.
